Working with the various aspects of Computers

My career started with General Electric's Computer Division in Phoenix during November of 1968 as a Field Hardware Support Engineer. After 2 years Honeywell Information Systems purchased the division. The Honeywell years were busy and challenging years for us. I began to work with the internal structure of hardware/software relationship as a part of the Multics team in the mid 1970's. That ultimately lead me from hardware to software support in 1978. Since that time my primary responsibility was support of Honeywell's and now Bull Information Systems transaction processing and database products and for the last few years networking and operating system functions. During these years I met many very talented folks. The job was challenging and exciting for 42 years and has led to a fine retirement.
One of my fellow employees said something like "There are no more new lands in the West to be discovered. We don't have to overpower wild animals with our brawn. Now we battle the unseen logic of the computer with our minds."
